Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1991 mandates that playground equipment be accessible to those with handicaps. While a broad range of handicaps exists, most attention seems to focus on children in wheelchairs. Three options are generally available for this group:

1. wheelchair ramps
2. transfer decks
3. low events accessible from the wheelchair

Since ramps are so expensive, options 2 and 3 have become more popular. Our transfer decks are shown throughout this catalog.

Many children with other handicaps can use "regular" play equipment. Hearing-impaired children can use most play events although plastic slides can interfere with hearing devises. Sight-impaired children can use most play events with assistance of another person.

Kidstuff Playsystems welcomes the opportunity to work with professionals in the field to develop appropriate activities for special children.
